Warnerville- Henry "Pete" Petersen, 83, of West Fulton Road, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.

Born November 30, 1925 in Annadale, Staten Island, NY, he was the son of Henry A. and Cecelia (Sorensen) Petersen.

Pete was a United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1943 until 1946 when he received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the Ralph Sperbeck American Legion Post 2049 of Richmondville. He was awarded his high school diploma on May 5, 2005 at the Operation Recognition for Schoharie County Veterans Ceremony.

A graduate of SUNY Cobleskill, Pete received an associates degree in poultry and then in 1949, another associates degree in the dairy industry. He went on to become a milk inspector for Eastern Milk Productions of Syracuse, retiring in the early 1990's.

Pete was an avid Monday Night Bowler for the Pangman Team, and later for the Seniors. He raised homing pigeons and was a member of Pigeon Fanciers of America. Pete was also an avid SUNY Tigers basketball fan.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma (Mickle) Petersen, whom he married Oct. 2, 1948; three children: Richard (Susan) Petersen of Warnerville, Cheryl (Marshal) Smith of Quakertown, PA, and James (Shirley) Petersen of Warnerville; five grandchildren: Michael Petersen, Jonathan Smith, Stephen Smith, Eric Smith, and Amanda Petersen; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Petersen.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, State Route 7, Warnerville. Officiating will be Rev. Marvin Batcher with Rev. Victor Zaccaro assisting. Military Honors will be presented at the conclusion of the church service. Friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 1 to 2 PM on Sat. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be private.
