Helen Shultes

Helen B. Shultes, 84, of Cotton Hill Rd., died Wednesday, July 08, 2009 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, following a long illness.

Mrs. Shultes was born in Middleburgh, NY on October 10, 1924, a daughter of the late Catherine (Hurley) and George Bevins, Sr.

Mrs. Shultes worked as a legal secretary for Sharon Mauhs and as a playground aide at the Middleburgh Elementary School. Most recently, she owned and operated Helen's Barber Shop in Middleburgh.

She was a Girl Scout leader, taught hunter safety and was a lifetime bowler, having been inducted into the Schoharie County Bowling Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Shultes was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, formerly St. Catherine's Church in Middleburgh and a member of the Parish's Rosary Society.

She was married to Richard D. Shultes on November 10, 1946 and he predeceased her on August 24, 2008.

She is survived by her daughters: Bonnie S. (Butch) Ingraham and Sharon H. Shultes, all of Middleburgh, NY; sons: William R. (Diane) Shultes of Clay, NY, Richard G. (Patricia) Shultes of Huntersland, NY and Robert B. (Marsha) Shultes of Cocoa, FL.; her brother: Joseph (Virginia) Bevins of Schoharie, NY; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, formerly St. Catherine's Church, Main St., Middleburgh, NY., with Father Thomas Holmes as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the Middleburgh Cemetery. Cremation took place at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady, NY. There will be no calling hours.
