Helen Scism

Middleburgh- Helen Alice (Marshman) Persons Scism, born May 9, 1946 in Middleburgh to the late Clifford and Kathryn (James) Marshman, departed this life on Saturday, June 26, 2010. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Faye Mapp and her granddaughter, Olivia Paige Mapp.

Helen lived in Middleburgh most of her life, moving to Elizabeth City, NC in 2005 to be near her children and their families. Her work history includes employment at Good Earth, the former Village Pizzeria, and Rossi's Carpet Gallery, all located in Middleburgh.

She was a member of the Middleburgh Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corp., and at one time, served as president of the auxiliary at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.

Helen enjoyed playing bingo and trips to the casino.

Survivors include her daughter, Rebecca Bancroft and her husband, Jesse, of Chesapeake, VA; two sons: Clifford Mapp and wife, Wendy, of NC, and Edwin Mapp and wife, Heidi, of NC; eleven grandchildren: Jesse Bancroft, Jr., Ivy Bancroft, Bridgett Mapp, Courtney Mapp, Tyler Mapp, Jessica Mapp, Travis Mapp, Erika Mapp, Erinn Mapp, William Scott, and Jessica Bancroft; and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River. St., Middleburgh, with Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends are also invited to attend a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 5 to 6 PM, prior to the service. Inurnment will be private.
