Gilboa- Helen A. Oliver, 99, formerly of Flat Creek Road, died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Guilderland Center Nursing Home where she has been a resident for several years.
Born April 16, 1915 in Bardonia, she was the daughter of Joseph and Angelina (Demio) Demoa.
Helen was a waitress for many years at Bardonia Gardens. Since 1954, her family owned a gentleman's farm in Gilboa and she moved here to live permanently in 1972. Helen enjoyed crocheting in her leisure. She was of Catholic faith.
Helen was predeceased by her first husband, William M. Karlau in 1969, her second husband, Hugo Oliver in 2004, and granddaughter, Kyera Karlau.
Survivors include her son: Willy (Betty) Karlau of Schoharie; stepdaughter: Virginia Woznick of Garnerville; three grandchildren: Caresse (Paul) Beam of Canajoharie, Willy (Alita) Karlau of SC, and Michael (Leisha) Karlau of Portland, OR; a step-granddaughter: Mary Jo McCullough of Amsterdam; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Vigil Service will be held at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Father Thomas Holmes officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior, from 2 to 4 PM Wednesday. A graveside service will be in Germonds Cemetery, New City on Thursday at 11:30 AM.
