Carlisle- Helen B. Mickel, 90, of Corbin Hill Road, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with her loving family at her side.
Born June 3, 1923 in Cobleskill, she was the daughter of Harley and Emmeline (Whitbeck) Holmes.
Helen was a graduate of the former Richmondville Central School and upon marrying Robert Mickel, she assisted in the daily operations of their dairy farm. They also worked together on the mail route covering Central Bridge, Sloansville, and Carlisle. For over twenty years, Helen was the receptionist at Lancaster, Emmons, Surman DDS, PC office in Cobleskill.
She was a member of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church and one of the founding members of the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary.
Spending time with her family is what brought the most pleasure to Helen's life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Mickel, who died Sept.29, 1973, and her brother, Robert Holmes.
Survivors include her three children: Terry (Debra) Mickel of Middleburgh, Susan (John Yerdon) Mickel of Schenectady, and Kevin Mickel of Carlisle; her sister: Alrene Jurusik of Schenectady; seven grandchildren: Alicia (Clint) Birdsall of Claremont, FL, Robyn (Robert) Countryman of Sharon Springs, Stephanie (Carl) Kuiper of Schenectady, Gregory (Donna) Mickel of Sharon Springs, Cory (Michelle) Mickel of Carlisle, Corey Barbic of Amsterdam, and April Barbic of Middleburgh; nine great-grandchildren: Ryan, Robby, Mitchell, Connor, Gabriel, Ethan, Liam, Mason, and CJ Birdsall; four nieces and one nephew.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Carlisle Presbyterian Church, State Route 20, Carlisle, with Rev. Bert Mayne officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill on Sunday, January 19th from 2 to 5 PM. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
