Helen M. Brown, 92, formerly of Stoneview Heights, Cobleskill, New York died Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Glendale Home in Scotia.
Born on June 27, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of Oscar and Helen Mae (Evans) Barber. She grew up in Hempstead, NY and was a graduate of the former Cobleskill High School.
Helen was the owner and operator of Cameo Bridal Shop in Carlisle for over 20 years. She worked for Scholet Furniture prior owning the bridal business.
She attended Lawyersville Reformed Church.
Helen was a very talented artist and seamstress. She enjoyed embroidery, quilting with her husband, crocheting, knitting, making porcelain face dolls and raggedy Ann & Andy dolls. She made both of her daughters wedding gowns, and was also well known for her elaborate wedding cakes, which she made for her children.
Her husband, Robert Brown, Sr. predeceased her on February 9, 2014. Her daughters, Debra James and Doreen "Dodi" Cechnicki; sisters, Beatrice, Betty; brothers, Billy and Calvert also predeceased her.
She is survived by her son, Robert "Bob" Brown, Jr. (Lori Jagow) of East Worcester; son-in-law, Gene Cechnicki of Canajoharie; 4 grandchildren,:Kim (Dan) Mattice, Brian (Shannon) Cechnicki, Robert (Katie) Brown III, Whitney (Erich) Reed; 5 great-grandchildren: Kara and Eric Mattice, Grayson and Camden Cechnicki and Dani Reed; sister, Marion Crummy of Guilderland; brother, Robert Barber of Ardsley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY with a period of visitation to be held prior from 10Am to 11AM. Officiating will be Rev Brett Popp of The Christian Church of Charleston Four Corners in Sprakers. Burial will take place in Carlisle Cemetery.
