Cobleskill- Mrs. Helen Rose Benjamin, 97, of Early Woodland Apartments, formerly of Long Island, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at her daughter's home in Richmondville.
Born January 11, 1912, Helen was the daughter of Wladislow and Sadie (Sieczkowski) Insadowski.
Helen was a homemaker all her life and was a former Supervisor for Suffolk County Girl Scouts, and was active with the Boy Scouts when her children were younger. She was also a recording secretary for West Islip School while living in the Long Island area.
Helen was a member of the Christian group, Fish, and the West Islip Presbyterian Church, where at one time she served as Sunday School Supervisor.
She moved to the Cobleskill area in 2001 and was a member of the Cobleskill Young at Heart.
Helen was the loving wife of Justin Cyril Benjamin, for 59 years. He predeceased her in 1991.
Survivors include her seven children: Judith Boughal of Richmondville, Margot Benjamin of Maryland, Helen Eileen Benjamin of West Islip, Robert Peter Benjamin of Syracuse, Justin Cyril Benjamin of Windsor, Bruce Allen Benjamin of Windsor, and Alan Benjamin of West Islip; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Owens of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Middleburgh. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
