Cobleskill- Helen Bell, 83, of Lafayette Circle, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born March 13, 1929 in Lutheranville, NY, she was the daughter of Emmit J. and Caroline (Follet) Winnie.

Helen was employed as a seamstress for the former Van Deusen Dress Shop in Cobleskill and later at the Ace Glove Shop in Richmondville.

She had served as president and was a life member of the BPOE #2040 Auxiliary in Cobleskill and was also a Boy Scout Auxiliary Leader.

Her husband, Robert C. Bell predeceased her on January 1, 1972, along with two sisters: Bernice and Gertrude, and her brother, John Winnie.

Survivors include her three children: Suzanne (Bruce) Stevens of Warnerville, Dorothea (James) Coleman of Browns Mills, NJ, and Walter Bell of Cobleskill; a sister, Ruth Schumacher of Texas; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Donald Klob officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service on Sat. from 2 to 4 PM. Burial will be private at Zion Rural Cemetery in Seward, NY
