Cobleskill- Hazel Mae Jenkins, 83, formerly of Early Woodlands in Cobleskill, New York died Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Cooperstown Center for Rehab and Nursing.
Born on October 4, 1940 in Oneonta, NY, she was the daughter of Robert Richard Conklin and Mae VanHoesen Conklin. She was a graduate of Worcester Central School, Class of 1958 and was a life long resident of Schoharie County.
Hazel worked for New York State, serving in various departments.
She attended Cobleskill United Methodist Church.
Hazel was an avid quilter. She was a wonderful cook and baker with a generous heart. She was always willing to open her home to anyone in need. In her younger years she was a den mother for Boy Scouts and a troop leader for Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed playing cards with her husband.
In Worcester, NY, in 1960 Hazel was married to Gerald William Jenkins, Sr. He preceded her in death in 2002. Her son, Gerald William Jenkins, Jr.; grandson, Nicholas Birsen; sisters, Mary Hanvey, Leona Pope; and brother, Richard Conklin also predeceased her.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Kim Birsen; sister, Margaret Herrala of Cobleskill, NY; grandsons, Christopher Birsen, Gerald Jenkins, III; great-granddaughters, Jane and Mae Jenkins; cousin, Charles (Kathy) VanHoesen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Sharon Nesbitt; niece, Tamara Guerrero; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00pm at Cobleskill United Methodist Church with Pastor Anna Blinn Cole officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church (1:00pm-2:00pm). Burial will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
