Middleburgh- Hattie C. Burgett, 90, of Wells Avenue, died Friday, May 18, 2012 at Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia following a short illness.
Born January 1, 1922 in the town of Fulton, she was a daughter of Orman and Leah (Scutt) Campbell.
Hattie retired in 1984 as a senior account clerk for the Schoharie County Probation Department, where she worked for twenty-six years. Prior to that, she had been employed at the former White Insurance Agency and the former Beekman Insurance Agency.
Hattie was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher and held leadership positions including serving as a church trustee, as well as tending to the altar flowers for over thirty years. She was also a member of the Cooperative Club and the Century Club.
For many years, Hattie volunteered at the Middleburgh Elementary School. She was well known in the community for making decorative cakes for weddings and special occasions. Hattie also provided and decorated many of the Christmas Trees for the Best House Victorian Tea.
She married Howard Burgett in 1942 and he predeceased her in 1976.
Survivors include her daughter: Donna Amberman of Middleburgh; her son: Edward Burgett of Middleburgh; her sister: Gladys (Fred) Benham of Norwich, CT; three grandchildren: Lily Alayne (Dale) Owen of Guilderland, Melissa Elaine Amberman (Nicole Holmes) of Holyoke, MA, and Anthea Burgett (Adam) Buschynski of Middleburgh; and six great-grandchildren: Glory Fenestre, Owen Marek, and Canyon Owen all of Guilderland, and Logan Stanton, Kelsey Burgett, and Drake Buschynski all of Middleburgh.
A private graveside service will be held at Old Stone Fort Cemetery with Marlene Towne as officiant. There will be no calling hours.
