Harry Roe, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully, Tues. Oct. 2, 2007 at the Eddy-Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes, NY.
Mr. Roe was born in 1924 in Worcester, NY a son of the late Harry Roe, Sr. and Eva (Woodbeck) Roe. He schooled in Worcester, NY and worked on local farms with his father in his younger years.
He was predeceased in 1998 by his beloved wife, Marion Rose Stevens, whom he married on Dec. 26, 1942. He is survived by six loving children, Harriett (Robert) Hinton of Sharon Springs, NY, Frances (Edward) Weatherwax of Albany, NY, Phyllis (Daniel) Zeh of Sun City, Arizona, James Roe of Clearwater FL., Gary Roe of Johnstown, NY, and David Roe of Goshen, NY. 14 Grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his beloved sisters, Pearl (Dorn) Harrington of Cobleskill, NY and Virginia (Roger) Felter of Balston Spa, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Bessie (Clarence) Roe of Jefferson, NY in 1964.
In the late 1940's he owned and operated a milk pickup route from farms to the Cobleskill Creamery. In 1953 he moved his family to Goshen, NY where he drove for McBride Trucking for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He also drove for Tetz Trucking for a short time. He was an active and highly respected member of the Cataract Engine & Hose Company in Goshen for many years, taking great pride in driving the tractor trailer tanker and training others. He continued to enjoy the Cataract Newsletters that kept him updated on the latest.
He enjoyed being on the road and enjoyed a few years of travel to Florida, Arizona and Texas in their fifth-wheel camper before settling in Sharon Springs, NY in 1987.
Services will be private, at the convenience of the family. Cremation took place at the Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady, NY. The Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, Cobleskill, NY is assisting with the arrangements.
