Cobleskill - Harold P. Pierce, 96, formerly of Cobleskill and Worcester, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Born February 28, 1914 in Worcester, NY, he was a son of LaRue and Maggie (Palmatier) Pierce.
Harold was a United States Army Air Corps. veteran, serving our country from 1935 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1938. In 1936, he flew in a Keystone 6 heavy bomber as a machine gunner. He was stationed in Panama and was a plane repairman when on the ground.
Harold owned and operated Pierce Garage in East Worcester for many years and also worked as a clerk at the former Cross Supply in Oneonta prior to retiring. He moved to Cobleskill in 1985, where he attended the First Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Arlene, on October 31, 1997; an infant son, Harold P. Pierce, Jr. in 1939, and his daughter, Marion George in 2008.
Survivors include his son, William (Patricia) Pierce of Howes Cave; four grandchildren, Debbie Pierce of Cobleskill, Laurie Meyers of Morris, NY, Tim McTaggart of Worcester, and Keith Pierce of Cobleskill; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Blanche Towner of Ithaca, and Marion Kantorcik of Fort Mill, SC.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Neil Irwin officiating. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Wed., prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be at East Worcester Cemetery following the service.
