Harold Peterson

Gilboa- Harold S. Peterson, 93, of Guinea Road, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at Albany County Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since 2012.

Born December 9, 1920 in Sweden, he was the son John and Ida (Erlandson) Peterson.

Harold was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1944 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He served in the Southern Philippines as well as the Japanese Occupation and received the Army Occupation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Following his discharge, Harold was employed at the Army Depot in Schenectady for about ten years, prior to its closing. He then worked the Moore Family Dairy Farm and was a school bus driver for Gilboa Central School.

Harold was a member of the Timothy Murphy American Legion Post 248 in Middleburgh. His hobbies were fishing and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Moore) Peterson, whom he married October 9, 1948; four children: Kristina Higgins of Westerlo, Rebecca Peterson of Albany, John (Joan) Peterson of Aurora, CO, and Valerie (Paul) Molloy of Preston Hollow; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Main St., Middleburgh with Rev. Royan Rodney officiating.
There will be no calling hours and burial will be private.
