Howes Cave- Harold "Butch" G. Johnson, Sr., 64, of Caverns Road, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Born May 20, 1948 in Mahopac, NY, he was a son of the late Harold S. Johnson and his mother, Arlene (Reed) Dailedanas, who survives him.
Butch was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1973.
Butch was a mechanic at the former Head's Chrysler/Dodge dealership and Southside Towing. He had also been the head mechanic at the bus garage for the former Richmondville Central School before becoming the current supervisor at the bus garage at the Mohonasen School system for over ten years.
Having a passion for cars and trucks, Butch's hobbies encompassed both restoring and rebuilding these. He also greatly enjoyed outdoor family activities. Besides the love for his family, he cherished all the animals in his life, both caring for them and being comforted by them: Mandy, Toby, Miss Diesel, Lakota, Bronson, and Cookie.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa L. (Daley) Johnson of Howes Cave; his three children: Harold G. Johnson, Jr. of Lake Carmel, NY, Bobbie Jo Johnson (Jason Sellie) of Ravena, and Jessie Lee (Dan) Valls of Glenville; his mother: Arlene Dailedanas of Jacksonville, FL; and two brothers: Todd Johnson of Arkansas, and Casey Johnson of Jacksonville, FL.
Private services will be held at the family's convenience. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187.
