Harold David "Pooch" Hagadorn,96, of Richmondville NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown NY.
Harold was born September 13, 1929, in Dorloo, NY. Pooch was one of 8 children of Florence & Harold Hagadorn Sr. He had six brothers and one very special younger sister.
Harold grew up in Dorloo, attending Dorloo school, Lark Street School in Cobleskill and then to high school. At 17 he got his first job at Harder Silo in Cobleskill, making pallets. He was drafted into the US Marines in 1952 and proudly served for four years. He returned to Harder Silo, this time helping put up silos. After he worked on several area farms; Harry & Mary Mickle's farm, Stanley & Dorothy Frances farm and of course the Pickett Farm, his second family, helping care for the local cemetery was a passion. He worked as a caretaker and hand dug the graves for over 25 years at the Seward Valley Cemetery in Dorloo. Pooch was very hardworking and very handy man to have around.
In 1990's he moved to 293 Main Street in Richmondville, NY. This was one of his favorite places to be! He took great pride in his amazing flower gardens out front, and he took much enjoyment in seeing others enjoying his beautiful flowers. You could always see him outside with his broom in hand doing his part to keep main street clean and tidy. Always on his porch in his comfy chair with a big smile on his face and a wave and hello to all that passed. Everyone knew Pooch. He was the unofficial Mayor of Richmondville! As his health declined, he moved to Palatine Nursing Home, where he enjoyed his final days.
Harold is predeceased by both his parents and all 6 of his brothers. He is survived by his sister, Betty Prentice of East Worcester; special nephew, Richard Hagadorn of Richmondville, who always took extra special care of Uncle Pooch; his dear friend, Joey Pickett and Penny Chase and family of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Contribution in memory of Harold "Pooch" Hagadorn can be made to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howe Cave NY 12092
