Middleburgh- Harold M. Coons, 91, of Clauverwie Road, died peacefully Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.

Harold was born in the Town of Broome on June 20, 1924 to Dora (Foland) and Beri Coons.

He graduated from Middleburgh Central School and worked in many capacities such as dairy farming, driving school bus at Middleburgh Central School for 39 years, a surveyor's assistant with Rudolph D. Snyder, Land Surveyor in Middleburgh and most recently as a delivery specialist with Sears in Cobleskill.

He served as the Town of Broome Highway Superintendent, a Village of Middleburgh trustee for 18 years, a 56-year member of the Middleburgh Fire Department, a charter member of Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corps, an officer of the Franklinton Grange and he served as a trustee at the Middleburgh United Methodist Church.

Harold enjoyed visiting, helping people, sharing a good laugh and an old-fashioned prank. Above all, he cherished his family and friends.

His wife of 54 years, Ruth Coons predeceased him on December 30, 2001, and a brother, Fred Coons.

Harold is survived by his daughter: Barbara (Pat) Coons of Middleburgh; sons: David (Brenda) Coons of Middleburgh, Bruce (B.J.) Coons of Lebanon, OH; grandchildren: Gregory, Jonathan, Joshua, Linnea; great-grandchildren: Cassidy, Savannah and Isaiah and his devoted caregiver, Terry Wood.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Middleburgh United Methodist Church, Main Street, Middleburgh, NY. Officiating will be Rev. Mary Ellen Moore. A time of fellowship will immediately follow in the social hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

The Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home of Cobleskill are assisting the family.
