Warnerville - Harmon Borst, 84, formerly of Warnerville, died Friday, June 3, 2011 at Palatine Nursing Home in Palatine Bridge, where he had been a resident for the past several years.
Born June 30, 1926 in Cobleskill, Harmon was the son of Charles and Della (Tripp) Borst. He was a lifelong area resident and proudly served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956, during the Korean Conflict.
Harmon was a member of the VFW Post 5088 of Cobleskill.
He was also a member of the NRA and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He submitted numerous letters to the editor of the Times Journal over the years, and found pleasure in writing and singing his own songs. Harmon liked feeding the stray animals, and in his later years enjoyed playing bingo at the nursing home.
Survivors include his sister: Mary B. King of Canajoharie; two nieces: Dawne Clancy and Kari King, both of Canajoharie; and a great-niece: Bobby Bascomb of Somerville, MA.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Victor R. Zaccaro officiating. Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, prior to the service.
