Schoharie - Guy J. Garrett, 89, of Schoharie, died Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, NY following a lengthy illness.
Born January 17, 1934 in New York City, Guy was the son of Guy and Marion (Harrison) Garrett.
He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1953 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1955.
Guy retired from SUNY Cobleskill in 1996 where he was a Professor for 28 years. Prior to SUNY Cobleskill he taught at Middleburgh Central School and was a senior claims investigator for Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Guy built his “Cabin” in Summit from scratch, including cutting the trees, hauling them, notching the logs and stacking to create the cabin. He was an avid woodworkers and a member of the Northeast Woodworkers Association. He enjoyed playing the classical guitar and loved to read. Those that knew him found, Guy to be intelligent, charming, witty, passionate and sarcastic during most debates.
Survivors include his wife, Anne C. Myers of Cobleskill; his five children: Thomas (Susan) Garrett of Wilton, Charles (Nancy) Garrett of Chandler, AZ, Robert (Michelle) Garrett of Holy Springs, NC, Suzanne (David) Dilli of Phoenix, AZ , and Nancy (Bradley) Brown of Charlotte, NC, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and sister Marion Nash.
In keeping with Garrett's request, there will be no public services. Inurnment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
