Gregory Jones

Greg passed away in the Capstone Nursing Home in Amsterdam NY on February 17, 2020 due to complications from a stroke.

Greg was born to Albert and Marjorie Jones on March 26, 291954, the youngest of 4 siblings all of which are predeceased.  He was married to Lynda Jane Jones (Brown) also of Northport.  The couple were recently divorced but remained friends.  Greg worked as an operating engineer for Local 138 out of Long Island NY where he operated heavy equipment for road construction and repair.  He also proudly served his community for over 40 years as a volunteer firefighter for both the Northport Fire Department where he served in the Engine Company and made the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant and Captain, and the Richmondville Fire Department.  Greg was also an avid bagpiper with a passion for bagpipe music and the families Scottish/Irish heritage.  He was a member of the Amityville Pipe and Drum and the Northport Pipe and Drum Bands.

Greg was a proud, devoted father and grandfather who was instantly loved by all who met him.  He is survived by his ex-wife, Lynda Jones (Brown), sons: Brian (Moira) and Eric (Kelley), and his seven grandchildren: Autumn, Kaylynne, Isabella, Addison, Tucker, Teresa and Tobias.  He also has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to both the Northport Fire Department and the Richmondville Fire Department.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY  12043.
