Glenn English

Cobleskill- Glenn A. English, 75, of Harder Ave., died Monday, August 24, 2009 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

Mr. English was born September 24, 1933 in the Town of Fulton, NY, and was the son of Leon and Eva (Woodbeck) English.

He was a lifelong area resident who worked for the Village of Cobleskill Highway Department as a Laborer, and retired in 1989. He was an avid outdoorsman who camped, hunted and fished, also repaired electronic appliances, built models, and loved to square dance.

Mr. English was a member of the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, East Worcester Rod & Gun Club, Eagles AERIES of Cobleskill Lodge # 2695, and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corp in 1953.

He was predeceased by an infant son, David English who died in 1958 and one brother, Kenneth English who died in 1991.

Mr. English is survived by 3 daughters; Diane (Roger) Filmer of Schenectady, Debra (George) Cooper of Howes Cave, Darlene Pease of Cobleskill, 2 sons; Donald and Darryl English, both of Cobleskill, 2 sisters; Vivian (William) Hottois of West Fulton, Freda Clapper of West Fulton, 1 brother; Larry (Karen) English of Cobleskill, his wife; Janice Slider, 13 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A committal service with full military honors will be held 11:00 am, Monday, Aug. 31, 2009 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY, with Rev. Neil Irwin officiating. A public visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 29 from 1-2 pm, with an Eagles AERIES prayer service at 2:00 pm, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY, the exclusive provider for Veterans and Family Memorial Care.

By request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 697, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
