Cobleskill- Gerald R. Handy, 70, of Lantern Lane died Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Born October 22, 1949 in Cobleskill, he was the son of John Clark and Elizabeth (Bowers) Handy.

Gerald was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country for three tours from 1968 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1973.  He was a disabled veteran belonging to the DAV and was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal (twice), Vietnam Camp Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

Gerald retired from Lancaster Development, Inc. of Richmondville as a laborer after several years.  In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, but most of all, spending time with his three grandsons.

Treasuring the many memories are his wife, Cindy L. (Nikolaus) Handy whom he married July 6, 1974; two sons: Scott Handy and his son, Thatcher and Michael (Jaimie) Handy and their sons, Riley and Liam; four brothers:  Dennis Handy of Richmondville, Jon (Sally) Handy of Richmondville, Douglas Handy (Shari Carr) of Schoharie and Jeff (Dawn) Handy of Sharon Springs; his sister, Connie (Charlie) Zwick; brother-in-law, Rodney Egnor and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents, stepmother, Marion, sister, Dianne, sister-in-law, Janet and nephew, Brent.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 12 to 3PM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.  A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 3PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey Smith officiating.  Spring interment with military honors will be held at Seward Valley Cemetery, Dorloo.
