Clifton Park- Gerald H. Clapper, 87, of Route Old 146, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born December 14, 1924 in West Fulton, he was a son of Fred and Mabel (Springstead) Clapper.
Gerald was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country in the Infantry Division of the 42nd Rainbow stationed in Germany in 1946. He received a WW II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1947.
Gerald retired from the Iron Workers Local Union #12 of Albany. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #12 in Albany and a life member of the Middleburgh VFW #2161.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Clapper, whom he married December 5, 1948; three children: Ronald W. Clapper of Halfmoon, Sheila MacDonald of Red Hook and Lisa Schermerhorn of Latham; his sister: Sylvia Davenport of Cobleskill; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Carl Clapper officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
