George B. Walker, 93, of Fulton Hill Road, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at his residence.
George was born August 18, 1913 in Huntington, Long Island, the son of George E. and Lillian (Johnson) Walker.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946 when he received an honorable discharge. After the service, he purchased a service station on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington. George was a former police officer in Lloyd Harbor, Suffolk County and then retired as superintendent of the Caumsett State Park in 1979 and moved to this area.
George was very active in community organizations serving as member and past master of Bredablick Lodge, Manhattan and the Cobleskill Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 394, member of the Kismet Shriners, New Hyde Park, dual member of Cypress Shriners of Albany, past Patron and past Grand Lecturer of Order of the Eastern Star, Ostego Commandry Knight Templar #76, Scottish Rite Consistory in Rockville Center, Royal Order of Jesters #174 of Long Island, Royal Order of Scotland, life member and quarter master for many years of VFW Post #5088 in Cobleskill, past commander of Schenectady-Schoharie County Council for VFW, American Legion Fred L. Stilson Post #57 in Cobleskill, Benevolent and Protective Order Elks Lodge #2040 in Cobleskill, life member of American Motorcycle Assoc., honorary member of Schoharie County Sheriff's Tactical and Rescue Force, NYS Sheriff's Assoc., Blue Knights Motorcycle Club #6 of Albany, NYS Rifle and Pistol Assoc. and the National Rifle Assoc.
He was also a member of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marian (Hicks) Walker, whom he married Sept. 19, 1979, 2 daughters: Carol Brown of Huntington and Annie Freitag of Birdsboro, PA; a step-daughter, Renee Ayers of Richmondville; his brother, Eugene Walker of Huntington; 5 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the VFW Post #5088 State Route 10 Cobleskill at a time to be announced. There will be no calling hours.
