Middleburgh- George W. Ruffcorn, Jr., 80, of Kelsey Road, died Friday, March 25, 2011 at his daughter's home with his loving family at his side.
Born November 14, 1930 in Brownsville, PA, he was the son of George W. and Henrietta (Horner) Ruffcorn, Sr. George was raised in Pennsylvania, then moved to the Bronx, and then to Middleburgh.
George was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1949 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1952.
He retired from JFK Airport where he was an electrician. While living in this area, he was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and was a member of the Fraternal Organization of Eagles Aeries #2695 of Cobleskill.
George enjoyed fishing, dancing with his wife, repairing cars, and was an avid Steelers fan.
On Dec. 1, 1951 he married Sarah (Sally) Waldron, and she predeceased him on March 25, 2004.
Survivors include his five children: George W. Ruffcorn, III (Cindy Strokes) of Middleburgh, Terry (Lee) Lacy of Middleburgh, Mary (James) Bixby of Middleburgh, Cathy Ruffcorn of Cobleskill, and Michael (Louise) Ruffcorn of Canandaigau; his grandchildren: Jacob and Carla Roberts of Cobleskill, Michael Paul Ruffcorn of Canandaigua, Matthew Lacy of Middleburgh, Joseph and Susan Bixby of Howes Cave, Daniel Bixby and Kellie Dorman of Middleburgh, and Jenni Bixby and Zach May of Cobleskill; six great-grandchildren: Paige, Aubrey, and Kendall Roberts, Kenzie Shaw, Jameson and Riley Bixby; his sister: Dorothy Turosik of Brownsville, PA; her brother: Larry (Michaelene) Ruffcorn of Brownsville, PA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Burial will be at a later date in Middleburgh Cemetery.
