George Lape

Cobleskill- George H. Lape, 91, of Mineral Springs Road, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford where he was a resident for six weeks.

Born April 22, 1927 in Richmondville, he was the son of Harold and Jennie (Sperbeck) Lape.

George was a longtime farmer, most recently making maple syrup after building his own sap house and running lines.  He was vigilant about watching the fire and boiling sap all day long.  George enjoyed his camp at Rossman Fly Pond, and was a hunter and fisherman.  He was also a great John Wayne fan, even carrying his pink hankie.

For many years, George worked in the maintenance department at SUNY Cobleskill.

He married Rosemary Mayer on April 26, 1947 and she survives him along with their son, Jerry Lape (former daughter-in-law, Judy Lape) of Cobleskill; three grandchildren:  Joel (Amber) Lape of Cobleskill, Ginny Lape of Howes Cave, and Erin (Clayton) Fripp of Howes Cave; and three great-grandchildren:  Madison, Levi, and Everhett Lape.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a period of visitation will be held from 10 to 11 prior to the service.  Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
