George Corneau

George M. Corneau, 72, a long-time resident of Ecker Hollow Road, Schoharie, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Stuart, Florida.

Born in Schenectady on March 31, 1944, George was the son of the late Hubert and Agnes (Hance) Corneau. He grew up in Scotia, graduating from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1962.
As an Air Force veteran, George served his country at numerous Air Force bases from 1966-1969, including the Da Nang Air Base in Vietnam from 1967-1968; working with aircraft munitions systems.

After his honorable discharge from the service, George completed his formal education at the Junior College of Albany and Russell Sage College Evening Division and began working at General Electric in Schenectady and Waterford. He retired in 2001 after 31 years of service.

George moved to the Schoharie area in 1977, where he met and married Holly Hayes, his beloved wife of 34 years. He very much relished the beautiful, natural surroundings of the area and enjoyed working at various activities around their home. As a member of the Middleburgh Rod & Gun Club, he was a hunting and fishing enthusiast and also traveled extensively with Holly.

They moved to Stuart, Florida in 2015.

George was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Middleburgh and St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Holly (Hayes) Corneau; his brothers, Paul (Kathy) of North Hampton, New Hampshire, Keith (Susan) of Ballston Lake, Gregory of Clifton Park; sisters Alison Sandler (Tom) of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Claire Young (Patrick), Thousand Oaks, California; along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 111 Wells Avenue, Middleburgh. Inurnment with military honors will immediately follow at Middleburgh Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are respectfully requested for the Northeast Kidney Foundation, Inc., 501 New Karner Road, Suite 6, Albany, NY 12205; Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church Rosary Society, 111 Wells Street, Middleburgh, NY 12122; or Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
