George Cooper

Howes Cave- George R. Cooper, 68, of Caverns Road, died Monday, April 16, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Born December 21, 1949 in Cobleskill, he was the son of the late Chauncey and Ethel (Diamond) Cooper.

George was a lifelong area resident, graduating from the former Cobleskill Central School where he was a member of the Koble Aires.  In the summer time, he was a painter for Leon Wilson and served as a Army Reservist for ten years.  For many years, George was employed at General Electric and later retired as a machinist from Vonroll in Rotterdam.

Since 1974, George was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Cobleskill Eagles Aeries #2695 and served as treasurer and guard.  He enjoyed family picnics, spending time with his wonderful family during the holiday gatherings and with his friends from Central Bridge.  In his younger years, George enjoyed working on cars and trucks.

Predeceasing him are his wife, Debra, on March 28, 2018, also his parents and two brothers, Eugene and Marlin “Mic” Cooper, predeceased him.

Survivors include his siblings, Yvonne (Doug) Blodgett of Cobleskill, Madeline Cooper of Amsterdam, Chet (Mary) Cooper of Pittsfield, VT, Wayne (Wanda) Cooper of Cobleskill, and Greg (Mary) Cooper of Schenevus, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Michael Gebhard officiating.  Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation that will be held from 10Am to 11AM, prior to the service.  Burial of George with his wife, Debra, will immediately follow in Central Bridge Cemetery.
