On Saturday, June 10, 2023, Gail Ann Roberts of Cobleskill, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 76.
She is survived by her Brother Andrew (Marianne) of Schoharie, Brother Gary (Kathleen) of Chestertown, her Niece Sarah Roberts (Alex), Nephews Mark Roberts, Keith (Carol) Roberts and Danny (Brooke) Roberts. She was born on October 16, 1946 to Virginia E. (Wright) and Ernest Roberts of Cobleskill.
After graduating from Cobleskill High School in 1964, she furthered her education at SUNY Cobleskill graduating in 1966 with an AAS specializing in accounting. After 36 years of service, she retired from the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance as an Estate Tax Technician.
Gail is fondly remembered for her kind and generous heart. She was a Renaissance woman whose flexible mind was capable of learning anything. She dabbled in carpentry; she was a champion bowler and a persistent golfer; her legendary vegetable gardens and garlic pickles are still talked about today; she was a queen of cross stitching and a master of crochet; she collected coins and baseball cards; she had an abiding love for American history with a depth of knowledge to match. She loved the NY Yankees, but always declared “whenever I watch they lose!” Therefore as she has now passed on, let it be known that the Yankees have no excuse to lose a ball game ever again.
In her younger days she was an audiophile with a love for new speakers and technology. She was a wizard at Dr. Mario and made her own maps on graph paper to conquer dungeons in the Legend of Zelda. Her easy laughter and brilliant smile will be sorely missed.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, on Saturday, June 17th, 2023, visiting hours are from 10:00-11:00am with a service beginning at 11:00am. Officiating will be Rev. BJ Baker of the First Baptist Church in Cobleskill. Burial will be held privately at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
Charitable donations in her memory can be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187.
