Franklin Shafer

Homer- Franklin L. Shafer, 92, formerly of South Grand Street, Cobleskill, died Friday, December 22, 2006 at Cortland Regional Medical Center in Cortland, NY.
He was born October 1, 1914 in Cobleskill, the son of Leland and Minnie (Pulver) Shafer. Franklin was the proprietor of Shafer's Market in Cobleskill until retiring in 1973.
He married Muriel Enfield Bassler on Feb. 4, 1936 and she predeceased him Sept. 2, 1999. They moved to Florida in 1987 and after her death he lived in Homer, NY.
While living in Cobleskill, Franklin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, Schoharie County Amateur Radio Club and the American Radio Relay League.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Joan Laurent of Mountainside, NJ, Donna Yacavone of Homer, NY, and Jean Kasile of Pendleton, IN; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, Dec. 28 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill with Rev. Jennifer Dyer officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 2 PM Thur., prior to the service. Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
