Cobleskill- Franklin J. Myers, Jr., 90, of Mallard Lane died Saturday, June 26, 2021, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing in Guilderland Center.
Born April 12, 1931, in Cobleskill, he was the son of Franklin J. and Grace (Wilday) Myers, Sr.
Franklin was a graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country until receiving an honorable discharge in 1950.
Franklin came back to his hometown and worked various jobs throughout his adult life. From working on a farm to driving bus, he kept himself busy. He retired from SUNY Cobleskill Maintenance Department after 25 years. Franklin was particularly proud of his 50+ years working the gate and security at the Sunshine Fair and the honorary pass he received for his service.
Franklin was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church. A community-minded, generous individual, he just recently made a monetary donation to the Cobleskill Police Department as well as the Cobleskill Fire Dept., Rescue Squad, and his church’s building program. Franklin was an avid reader and a great storyteller with a quick wit and gentle smile.
He married Lois Mossman on June 21, 1958, and she predeceased him on March 30, 2008. He was also predeceased by his younger sister, Marian Maurice (Myers) on January 23, 2018.
Survivors include his daughter, Dian Myers of Cobleskill; son, Terry Myers of Tonawanda, NY; grandchildren: Emma Kelly of Maryland, Kristen Myers of Schenectady, along with several other grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Calvary Assembly Of God Church, 960 Mineral Springs Rd., Cobleskill with Rev. Ray Richards and Pastor Donald Klob co-officiating. Inurnment will be at 1PM on Friday, July 16, 2021 in the Turk Plot Section of Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
