Middleburgh: Franklin L. "Coonie" Coons, 82, of Main Street, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.
Coonie was born on July 31, 1934 in Middleburgh to Edna (Slack) and Asbury J. Coons.
He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 and then worked as a carpenter at Carpenter's Local #370 in Albany for 50 years before retiring.
Coonie enjoyed playing Pitch, playing and coaching softball, rooting for the New York Mets and the New York Jets, hunting, fishing and was a lifetime member of the Middleburgh Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed a daily routine of visiting with family and friends at several local establishments.
He was predeceased by his sisters: Pauline Laraway Shilstone, Norma Huntington; brothers: Lawrence Coons, James Coons.
Coonie is survived by his daughters: Shelly Coons (Kenneth Kelly) of Richmondville, Mary Lou (Mark) Wyble of Kingman, AZ; grandson: David (Kailee) Angle of Wylie, TX; many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY, with Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Inurnment will be private.
