Middleburgh, N.Y.: Frank W. "Bill" Stubbs, Jr., 84, of Gridley Rd., died suddenly Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Cobleskill, N.Y.
Frank was born in Riverhead, N.Y. on November 21, 1925, son of the late MayBelle (Field) and Frank W. Stubbs, Sr.
He left high school in eleventh grade, with his parents' permission, to enlist in the Armed Forces. Frank served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was a gunner aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain and in one of the first groups to reach Pearl Harbor after the Japanese bombing.
Frank worked as a road car inspector with the New York City Transit Authority before retiring.
He moved to Middleburgh in 1988 from Peekskill, N.Y.
Frank was an avid golfer, member of several golf clubs and had many golfing "buddies". He enjoyed NASCAR racing, singing with his Irish tenor voice and spending time with his family.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Florence Travis Stubbs on November 1, 2006.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Gayle and Joseph Nastasi of Middleburgh, N.Y. and by his grandchildren: Jessica Nastasi and Devon Nastasi, both of Middleburgh, N.Y.
Services will be held privately, at the convenience of the family. Cremation took place at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady, N.Y.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
