Franco Mazzetti, Sr

Cobleskill- Franco Mazzetti, Sr., 86, of Woodland Drive, died Monday, December 26, 2022 in the comfort of his home.
Born May 23, 1936 in Mombercelli, Italy, he was the son of Giovanni and Luisa (Gagliardi) Mazzetti. In his teens, he worked as a wine steward on a transatlantic cruise liner. He became a US citizen in 1957 and married his first wife, the late Violet (Menna) in 1963, living in Brentwood, NY.
Franco worked as a self-employed contractor and a Captain (head waiter) at LaTavernetta Restaurant in Woodmere, NY for many years. A talented man, he was always busy creating and building. In 1989, he married Erika, and they later retired to Schoharie County after many years of coming here in their spare time.
Franco loved gardening and could often be seen around Early Woodland Apartments tending to the flowers with his wife. Decorating for the holidays also brought him much pleasure and he would do this around the senior community. He and Erika would travel to the casinos, playing their favorite slot machines.
Cherishing their memories are his son and family, Franco (Marie) Mazzetti, Jr. and their children: Sarah, Matthew, and Elizabeth Mazzetti; his step-daughters: Michelle (John) Foley of Northport and their children: Aidan, Dylan, and Cameron and Deborah Langevin of Yonkers; his brother, Ugo Mazzetti and sister, Liliana Mazzetti, both of New Jersey.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill. A period of visitation will be held prior to the service from 12pm to 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc., PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
