Warnerville- Francis "Dutch", R. Rickard, 87, of Leland Lane, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at his residence.
Mr. Rickard was born November 16, 1920 in Cobleskill, NY, the son of Burl and Ella (Beaver) Rickard.
He was a lifelong area resident who was employed at Selkirk's Hardware Store for many years. Most recently he worked maintenance at Key Bank in Cobleskill.
Mr. Rickard was a United States Marine Corp. Veteran serving from 1942 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. While serving our country, he participated in the assault and capture of Okinawa Ryukyu Islands, against enemy Japanese forces from April 1945 to May 1945. Mr. Rickard was a recipient of the Purple Heart along with other citations and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 200.
He was predeceased by a son, George B. Rickard.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Markle) Rickard, whom he married September 28, 1991; 3 daughters: Jan-Marie (Larry) Brooker of Cobleskill, Sue-Ann Lawyer (Ron Barbic) of Middleburgh, Hope Mickel; 1 son, Raymond (Nancy) Rickard of Poland, NY; 3 step-daughters; Cheryl Ware, Robin Schrom and Christina Compton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Edith Holmes of Richmondville.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm Street Cobleskill. There will be no formal funeral service.
