Cobleskill- Floyd Weis, 84, of Berry Lane, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his residence following a brief illness.
Born April 4, 1928 in Durham he was the son of Henry and Lydia (Cleveland) Weis. Floyd was a lifelong area resident and at a young age began his farming career.
Later in life he was employed for over twenty years with J.M. Robertson in Oneonta as a foreman for road construction. He retired from farming and began his sawmill business, building log homes and other conventional houses.
Floyd was a great outdoorsman, planting fruit trees from seedlings, gardening, raising work horses and honey bees, along with being an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.
He was a Jehovah's Witness.
He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Joyce Nirschl, a brother, Lloyd Weis, and a half-brother, Elmer Lobdell.
Survivors include his wife, Alta (Merwin) Weis, whom he married February 8, 1946; three children: Gerard (Cynthia) Weis of Camden, Jerry(Debra) Weis of Cobleskill, and Joan Butler; three sisters: Elizabeth Wood of Middleburgh, Mamie Stemple of Greenville, and Virginia South of Coxsackie; ten grandchildren: Tammy (Charlie) Edmonds, James (Jennifer) Weis, Jesse Weis, Lesa Winton, Sarah (James) Siegfried, Jeremy Weis, Christina (Isaac) Jones, Allan (Nancy) Nirschl, Jr., Rebecca (Mark) Nicole, and Shaun (Wendy) Nirschl; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A memorial talk will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3706 State Route 145, East Cobleskill. Family and friends are also invited to attend a time of visitation to be held from 3 to 5 PM on Wednesday, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St. Cobleskill. Spring interment will be in Sharon Cemetery, Leesville, NY.
