Middleburgh- Evelyn May Wierzchowski, 91, formerly of Middleburgh, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital following a short illness.

Born May 24, 1920 in the town of Guilderland, she was a daughter of Augustive and Sophie (Neverman) Klemme. Evelyn was the last surviving child of seven.

She was raised on a dairy farm and all her married life she tended to the garden farm with her husband, John. Evelyn prided herself in her labors of a self employed domestic housekeeper for several families in the Schenectady area.

A hard worker all her life, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and sewing as well. Evelyn was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill.

Her husband, John, predeceased her in 2000.

Survivors include her son: John (Janet) Wierzchowski of Middleburgh; four grandchildren: Brien (Amy) Wierzchowski of Lagrangeville, NY; Scott Wierzchowski of Houston, TX, Deborah (Major Patrick) Sweeney of Grantham, NH, and Daniel Wierzchowski of Albany, NY; four great-grandchildren: Corinne, Jocelyn and Gabriel Wierzchowski, of Lagrangeville, NY, and Mia Sweeney of Grantham, NH; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill with inurnment following in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corp., PO Box 817, Middleburgh, NY 12122, or the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Dept., 1337 Huntersland Rd., Middleburgh, NY 12122.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
