Cobleskill- Evelyn J. Garber, 71, of Hollenbeck Road, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 15, 2017 while out for a walk.
Born March 28, 1946 in Cobleskill, the daughter of Howard and Mary (Koker) Baker.
Evelyn was a lifelong area resident, graduating from the former Cobleskill Central School. She was not one to sit idle, always working and doing for the community. She worked at the former Interknitting, the former Wohl's Dept. Store, the former Lawyersville Post Office, and then became her husband's right-hand assistant on the dairy farm. Since 2001, Evelyn has driven bus for the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District.
She was a member of the Lawyersville Reformed Church, and former member of the Cobleskill Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Evelyn loved gardening vegetables and flowers and won numerous awards for her flowers at the Sunshine Fair. She had also bowled on the Wednesday Night League in Cobleskill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter and two sisters: Elizabeth VanVois and Judith Lord.
Survivors include her husband, Ferdinand "Fred" Garber, whom she married June 28, 1964; three sons: Randy Garber of Cobleskill, Brian Garber of Central Bridge, Chad Garber of Cobleskill; two sisters: Linda (Donald) Bennett of Honeoye Falls, NY and Patricia (Warren) VanDeusen of Cobleskill.
A memorial service will be held at 12PM on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Paul Ferenzcy of the Lawyersville Reformed Church. A period of visitation will be held prior to the service, from 10 AM to noon at the funeral home.
