Cobleskill- Evelyn T. Cornell, 96, previously a long time resident of Cobleskill, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Oak Hill Manor in Ithaca, NY.
She was a daughter of Samuel and Laura Tompkins of Stamford, NY and was born in the town of South Kortright, Delaware County, on December 20, 1915.
Evelyn graduated from Stamford Seminary in 1931. She married George R. Cornell, who managed G.L.F. and Agway farm stores for many years and he predeceased her on March 1, 1988.
Mrs. Cornell retired from Cobleskill Community Hospital in 1977. She was a life long member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild in Cobleskill.
She was also predeceased by five sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her two sons: Philip (Patricia) of Ithaca, NY and Richard (Lynne) of Needham, MA; two grandsons: Scott Cornell and Samuel Cornell; two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Katherine Cornell; her sister: Edna Schwartz of Stamford, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, with Rev. Sara Litzner, of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland, NY.
