ETHEL MANSHEFFER (RICKARD) SPENCER

Cobleskill: Ethel J. Spencer, 78, died at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital, on Tues. July 24, 2007 following a short battle with lung cancer.

She was born on Dec. 31, 1928 in Cobleskill, NY to the late George and Cenah (Lamont) Mansheffer. She was a graduate of Cobleskill Central School and lived most of her life in Schoharie County before moving to Florida and later returning to Central Bridge, NY to live.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was predeceased by her second husband Ted Spencer, her son, George B. Rickard, her grandson, Jeremy Johnson and her sister Ruth Mansheffer. Ethel is survived by her 3 children, Raymond (Nancy) Rickard of Poland, NY, Sue-Ann Lawyer of Middleburgh, NY and Jan-Marie (Larry) Brooker of Cobleskill, NY, 10 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren. She is also by her sisters, Shirley Skerritt of Summerville, SC, Joyce Hoefer of Venice FL., Mary Falzarano of Warnerville, NY and Lois Merkley of Cobleskill, NY, her Aunt, Esther (Tom) Danforth, several cousins, nieces, nephews and by "Benji," her constant companion for 7 years who has now been adopted by a new loving family.

A memorial service will be held on Fri. July 27, 2007 at 2 P.M. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, NY with Sister Connie James and Rev. Jared Van Wagenen, IV., co-officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family, in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, Cobleskill, NY and the Palmer & Shaylor, Inc. Funeral Home, Middleburgh, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ethel's name to the Catskill Area Hospice Hope Foundation, 327 West Main St., Suite 3, Cobleskill, NY 12043 or to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
