Livingstonville- Erna Olbert peacefully passed away at home on January 26, 2013. She was born in Heidelsheim, Germany, on September 19, 1919, a daughter of Ernst Rudolf and Luise Margarete Jaeger.

Erna attended and graduated from a Catholic Convent School in Bruschsal, Germany, where she received her associate degree in pediatric nursing. She immigrated to the United States in 1937, where she met and married her husband, Henry Olbert. Erna excelled in preparing specialty German dinner and desserts for family and friends. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and making handmade quilts. Her hand knitted socks were a welcomed and cherished family gift. She had an incredible sense of humor and always taught the value of hard work, perseverance, honesty, and family. An excellent story teller and family historian, she verbally passed on the rich history of her family and friends, both in Germany and this country, to her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated companion and playmate to her two daughters. She never refused a game or a hike in the park or woods.

Erna worked for many years as a laboratory assistant at The Rockefeller University for Medical Research in New York City before retirement. During her retirement years, she and her husband enjoyed their homes in Livingstonville, NY and Clearwater, FL.

Erna was predeceased by her husband in 2006. She was also predeceased by her parents and three brothers: Paul, Henry, and Armin.

She is survived by a sister: Paula Schroth in Germany, as well as her two daughters: Brigitte (John) Albers and Irmgard (Edward) Wogan; and grandchildren: John (Judy) Albers, II, Jeff (Linda) Albers, Edward (Susan) Wogan, Eileen (Dave) Ostrander, Mary Ellen Wogan, and James (Mindy) Wogan; and great-grandchildren: Jasmine and Jenna Albers, Logan and Austin Albers, Brian Mayville, Ryan, Amanda, and Erin Ostrander, Jake and Molly Wogan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
