Cobleskill- Erma S. Holmes, 94, formerly of Cobleskill, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at her daughter's residence following a short illness.

Born July 19, 1918 in Seward, NY, she was the daughter of George and Dollie (Vrooman) Sternberg.

Erma was a lifelong area resident and she helped on the family farm in Seward. She retired from the Times Journal in Cobleskill as a proofreader.

She was an active member of the Lawyersville Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and was president of the former ladies' club.

She married Martin B. Holmes on July 19, 1938, and he predeceased her on January 23, 2008 along with a grandson, Donald Comins, who died in 2005, and her sister, Julia Mann, who died in 2010.

Survivors include her twin daughters: Lola (George) Fletcher of Sharon Springs, Lois (Warren) Comins of Canajoharie;; three grandchildren: Gina Proctor of Howes Cave, Michelle Keaney of Sharon Springs, and Dianne Barrett of Portland, OR; five great-grandchildren: Joshua Proctor, Meghan Keaney, Samantha Keaney, Jessica Comins; and two great-great-grandsons, Dominic Fletcher of Sharon Springs and Johnathan Ferguson of Canajoharie.

A funeral service will held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY with Rev. Pacia Ferrell-Vamvas, of the Lawyersville Reformed Church officiating. A period of visitation will be heldat the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon, NY with a reception immediately following at the Lawyersville Reformed Church Social Hall.
