Richmondville- Eric Karl Petersen, 51, of Bear Gulch Road, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at his residence with his family at his side.
Eric was born May 17, 1956 in Kingston, NY, the son of Sorens and Joan (Liebel) Petersen, who both survive him.
Eric was a proud member of Laborer's Local #157 of Schenectady, working as a pipe form fitter, mason foreman, and laborer, until his retirement in 2004. Prior to that, he was employed by Russell Picotti working in construction. At the age of 18, he was the Mason Foreman at Albin Construction Co. in Schenectady, NY and worked for Bondale Construction of Blenheim, NY, Porbisello Quarry, SJ Groves Co. building Interstate 88, as well as Nic-Anthony Construction Company, paving Broome County Airport and Ever-Link Airport.
Eric was an avid sportsman, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He loved gardening and raising beef, foxes, and sheep.
Along with his parents of Pleasant Mount, PA, Eric is survived by his wife, Sandra (Rightmyer) Petersen whom he married July 11, 1981; 3 daughters: Paige Petersen of Cobleskill, Lindsay Serio of Beaufort, SC, and Erica Petersen of Richmondville; a sister, Brenda Brown of Carbondale, PA; a brother, Warren Petersen of Pleasant Mount, PA; and 2 grandsons: Parker Briggs of Cobleskill, and Jason Serio of Beaufort, SC.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm Street Cobleskill. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Edmister of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville. Calling hours will be from 2 to 3 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Spring interment will be Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
