Cobleskill- Emil F. Galasso, 94, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Galasso was born August 1, 1916 in Lancaster, NY and was the son of Carmen and Anna (Cerullo) Galasso.
In 1947, Emil and his brothers, August, Louis, and Anthony, founded Lancaster Development in Lancaster,NY. He moved to the Cobleskill area in 1954 from Lancaster, NY and they founded Cobleskill Stone Products and continued with Lancaster Development. In 1960, they built and operated the Cobleskill Bowling Lanes and Motel, which is now the Best Western, and Emil retired in 1981 as President of Cobleskill Stone Products. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Mr. Galasso was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (Wasielewski) Galasso, who died on March 21, 1994.
He is survived by his son, Emil J.(Patricia) Galasso of Cobleskill, two daughters, Joan H. Jarvis and Shirley Ann (Robert) Krauss, both of Lancaster, NY; six grandchildren, Anne-Marie Galasso and Michael Galasso of Cobleskill, Mark Snyder, William Jarvis, Kevin Krauss, Jeffrey Krauss all of Lancaster, NY; and five great-grandchildren, Cody, Samuel, Emily, Julian and Andrew Galasso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am, on Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, NY with Rev. Thomas Holmes as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
