Cobleskill- Ellen E. Kelley, a long time resident of Cobleskill, New York, passed away on March 17, 2008 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY
The daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Kelley, she was born June 27, 1918 in Ballston Spa, New York.
Following graduation from Ballston Spa High School, she entered the Nathan Lattauer Hospital School of Nursing in Gloversville, NY in 1942. Following graduation as an RN, she was employed at the Ballston Spa Memorial Hospital until she joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1943. During her time in the armed forces she graduated from the New England Nurse Anesthetist School of Anesthesia. After a debilitating illness, she was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant.
As an active and committed member of the United Methodist Church, she spent long years in retirement seeking ways in which to help others.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kelley of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Eileen Kelley of Largo, FL; and two dear friends: Helene (Ed) Vaillancourt of Tucson, AZ, and Barbara Ibarra of Middleburgh.
She was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, Daniel, William, Thomas, Edward, and Robert, as well as three sisters, Margaret Jenkins, Mary Clark, and Kathleen Sullivan.
Her long time companion, Marjorie Nellis, predeceased her in June 2007.
It was her desire to have her remains donated to Albany Medical College for anatomical research and educational purposes.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church Chapel Street Cobleskill with Rev. Pam Mikel Hayes and Rev. Barbara Ibarra officiating.
