Elizabeth "Betty" Simpson

Cobleskill- Elizabeth Z. Simpson, 93, of State Route 10, died Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where she had been a resident for the past ten days.

Born July 6, 1925 in Liverpool, NY, she was the daughter of Arnold J. and Lena (Jenny) Zurbruegg.  Proud of her Switzerland heritage, she was the youngest of eight children and the last surviving of them.

Betty graduated from Sidney High School.  She retired after many years of working in customer service for the former Niagara Mohawk in Cobleskill.

She and her husband, Lewis, loved to jitterbug.  Elizabeth also enjoyed knitting, reading, puzzles, family trips to Maine and playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lewis predeceased her in October of 1985 and her granddaughter, Wendy Tissiere, in 1966.

Cherishing her memories are her daughter, Sheryl (Jack) McNerney of Seward, three grandchildren:   Cindy (Dan) Weatherwax of Rotterdam, Amy (John) Lauterbach of Howes Cave, and Jaime (Candace) Tissiere of DelRio, TX; eight great-grandchildren:  Brett L. Lauterbach, Sara A. Lauterbach, Connor D. Weatherwax, Brady W. Weatherwax, Isabella C. Jones, Madison E. Tissiere, Sophia R. Tissiere, and Hudson J. Tissiere; and three great-great-grandchildren:  Lorelei, Ella, and Jorah Jones.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.  Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 10 to 11, prior to the service.  Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion St. John’s Lutheran Church, 114 Mesick Ave., Cobleskill, NY 12043.
