Elizabeth Wood

Elizabeth A. Wood, 91, of Union St., died Friday, June 27, 2008 at her home following a brief illness.

Mrs. Wood was born in Schenectady, NY on January 30, 1917 a daughter of the late George C. and Rosa S. (Hamman) Scheile. She was married to Lawrence C. Wood on Sept. 21, 1940 and together they co-owned and operated Woody's Food Market in Schenectady for almost 30 years. Mrs. Wood was also a resident of the Middleburgh area for almost 30 years. She was a Communicant of St. Catherine's Church in Middleburgh and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the church's ladie's craft club. Mrs. Wood enjoyed camping, canoeing, bicycling and cross-country skiing, well into her 80's. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence on Jan. 21, 2008 and also by her sister, Anita Melanson. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thurs. July 3, 2008 at St. Catherine's Church, Main St. Middleburgh. Father Thomas Holmes will be celebrant. Inurnment will follow in the Middleburgh Cemetery. Cremation took place at the Vale Crematory, Schenectady, NY.
