Gilboa: Elizabeth I. "Betty" Loucks, 83, of Flat Creek Road, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, NY, following a diagnosis of cancer.
Betty was born on June 5, 1933 in Andes, NY to Alice (Story) and Willard Christian.
She was raised on her grandfather's, Charles Story, farm in Andes where her love of animals was first realized. She always had pets and at one point raised beagles.
Betty graduated from Delaware Academy in 1951 and kept in touch with many of her classmates, having lunch with them on a regular basis. She also enjoyed gardening around her home.
Betty proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1954 as a keypunch operator.
Betty worked at the aluminum plant in Oneonta, at multiple customer service jobs and truly enjoyed being a teller at Delaware National Bank of Delhi. Following retirement and moving to Gilboa, Betty was employed through the Green Thumb program as a receptionist and enjoyed working with the "kids" at the NYS DEC office in Stamford.
Her husband, Douglas Ackerly and sister, Doris Meyerhoff predeceased Betty.
She is survived by her beloved cat: Josie; niece: Marcia (David) Beers of Arizona; many great-nieces and nephews; and close friends, Alicia and Bill Terry of Gilboa.
At Betty's request, there will be no formal services.
