Jackson, MI- Elizabeth (Betty) M. (Patterson) Horton passed away on August 28, 2012 at home with her family at her side in Jackson, MI.

Born in Cobleskill, NY to Maisie (Lawyer) and Olin Patterson, she attended Cobleskill Central Schools and obtained her bachelor of art degree and masters in Public Health Education in Chicago, IL.

Betty worked at Albany Medical Center and St. Peter's Hospitals in Albany, NY, AHIMA in Chicago, IL, Michigan Department of Correction in Lansing and Jackson, MI, and for the country of Pakistan in Karachi.

She traveled throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Alaska teaching ethics and Health Information Management. Betty retired from the State of Michigan Department of Corrections on Sept. 30, 1993.

She is the mother of: Leland M. (Carolyn) Horton, Anthony Horton, William Sway, and Garry (Nancy) Sway; grandmother to: Kristine (Horton) Drake, Amanda (Sway) Harley, Michael Sway, Garry Sway, Jr., and Anthony Sway; great-grandmother of: Courtney and Brandon; and sister of Alice (Clifford) Palmer

Betty was predeceased by her husbands: Leland (Lee) B. Horton and Clarence (Mike) P. Sway; her sisters: Dorothy (Everett) Pickett, Frances (Herbert) Van Natten, Mabel Patterson, Anieta Livingston, and a brother: William (Betty) Patterson.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, NY. A memorial service will be held at 9 AM on Sat., Sept. 15 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
