Middleburgh- Elizabeth M. Van Dyke, 84, of Indian Springs Lane, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center, Schenectady, NY, where she had been a resident for the past five months.
Born September 26, 1930, in Johnstown, Elizabeth was raised in Schoharie and graduated from Schoharie Central School in 1948. She was the daughter of Harold, the former Schoharie postmaster, and Lacy (Baker) Martin.
Elizabeth was a longtime resident of Middleburgh, where she was an active member of the business community for many years, managing payroll and financial records for the Middleburgh Hardware and Middleburgh Electrical and Insulation Companies. She was also active in planning and supporting community events like the celebration of Middleburgh's 250th anniversary in 1962. Elizabeth also resided in Winter Haven, FL, where she retired from McDonald's Insurance Company as an administrative assistant, before returning to Middleburgh.
Elizabeth was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and was an administrator for the church's former after-school program. She was also a member of the Timothy Murphy Post 248 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Middleburgh Golden Age Club.
Elizabeth was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to caring for family members and her beloved pets. She was predeceased by her brother, Harold Martin. Survivors include her daughters: Coleen Norberg of Middleburgh, Anne (Dale) Reed-Best, of Guilderland; son: Mark (Joan) Van Dyke of Hopewell Junction; brother: John (Irene) Martin of Oviedo, Fl; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, a great-grandson expected in May; one niece and four nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 326 Main Street, Middleburgh, with Rev. Carol Coltrain officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, March 20, 2015 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Spring inurnment will be in the Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain, NY. Cremation took place at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
