Eleanor Norton

Carlisle- Eleanor C. Norton, 99, formerly of Cobleskill and Carlisle, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Born December 25, 1918 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Margaret E. (Stanton) Cook.

Eleanor was a cashier for the A&P Store in Brooklyn, along with being a devoted wife and mother.  She and her husband, William, moved to this area in 1971.

Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family.  She loved spending time with children, her ladies group, “The Friday Nighters”, and spending time on Facebook with family and friends.  Eleanor is of Catholic faith.

She married William J. Norton on October 11, 1940 and he predeceased her in 1995.  She was also predeceased by her son, Thomas, a grandson, David Norton, and a granddaughter, Erin Norton.

Cherishing memories of Eleanor are her five children:  Barbara (Steven) Winning of Carlisle, William J. (Harriet) Norton, Jr. of AZ, Lee Anne (Patrick) Gleason of Lincoln Park, NJ, James (Cheri) Norton of Winter Haven, FL, and John (Vanessa) Norton of Guilderland; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, February 23, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul’s Catholic Church, 138 Washington Avenue, in Cobleskill.  There will be an hour of visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.  Inurnment will be in Long Island National Cemetery at a later date.
